CEO / Commandant for the Division

My name is Dan Cybulski, and I’m the Regional Manager for a firm called Roevin Technical People. Based in Saint John, I am now working with Canadian Commissionaires – NB and PEI to find a CEO/Commandant for the Division.

 I am currently seeking qualified applicants for an excellent position at a senior level for a retired, or soon to be retired, officer. The expected start date for this position is September 1st, 2010, or sooner if possible. The salary range is $65,000 to $75,000, with benefits and relocation assistance if required. As you can see, a previous career in military, police, security, human resources, or any senior level staff position would be an excellent basis for this job. The mandate of Commissionaires Canada is to provide employment for ex-military and police staff, and a large percentage of their client base are military installations, so you can see a fit for an interested retiree.

Commandant / Chief Executive Officer

Canadian Corps of Commissionaires NB / PEI Division

Location: Saint John

The Commandant/Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the supervision, management, administration, financial organization, and discipline of the Division. They are required to be an expert trainer, coordinator, planner, and administrator able to produce results with a non-profit budget and a small headquarters staff. He/she must consistently demonstrate effective leadership and management skills. There is continuing human resources, workers compensation, pay and benefits, job performance and labour relations negotiations which require a consistent, patient and understanding approach. The need to market aggressively the services of the Corps to prospective clients is of high importance. He/she is also required to maintain good health and the ability to travel at short notice. High standard of dress, deportment and personal image are paramount as they reflect upon the Corps and its operations.

Duties:

  • Recommends, implements, reviews, and coordinates departmental policies, procedures, goals, objectives, and general orders.

  • Reviews, evaluates, and assigns work activities, projects, and personnel.

  • Participates in developing, forecasting, implementing, and monitoring the department budget.

  • Confers with citizens and official on legal and community issues falling under the jurisdiction of the Corps, attempting to resolve problems and recommend appropriate programs and activities.

  • Directs or coordinates the provision of various support services necessary to the operation of the Corps.

  • Investigates charges of inefficiency of neglect of duty against force members, file charges based on evidence, and implements discipline and termination procedures.

  • Recommends merit awards for subordinates.

  • Serves as liaison to various community, public, and professional organizations, groups, boards, and commissions.

  • Investigates complaints and or charges filed against Corps members before issuing disciplinary action.

  • Prepares, reviews and analyzes reports, statistics, documents, data, and other information necessary to Corps planning and management.

  • Reviews activity reports prepared by Corps personnel for quantity and quality of work performance.

  • Reads and answers all correspondence.

  • Writes and submits press releases to the Board and Media.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to speak in both official languages would be considered an asset.

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

  • A military or policing background will be considered an asset for this position.
