Chief of Police
Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service
The Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service is seeking an ethical, visionary and strategic police leader with experience in the administration of police operations and oversight of community-based policing services and programs. Experience is required with northern First Nations’ traditions and culture, First Nations governance and policing environment and the opportunities and challenges of policing in remote, northern communities.
Success in the role requires the ability to demonstrate the following competencies:

Leading a team and motivating an organization to achieve excellence by communicating a clear vision and creating an environment that encourages innovative solutions and continuous improvement

Building and fostering relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders and policing partners by identifying and initiating creative partnership opportunities that support public safety and effective policing services

Ensuring that organizational structures and management systems are in place to sustain accountable and efficient administration of both human and physical resources in support of police operations

Keeping current with issues and trends related to ethical policing standards and holding self and others accountable for appropriate decisions and behaviours

Maintaining effective internal and external communications with staff, stakeholders, partners, media and the public to share information, solicit feedback, influence outcomes and enhance the professional and progressive image of the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service
Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS) is a dynamic organization, the largest First Nation police service in Canada, employing over one hundred and fifty uniform members and civilian staff and policing communities which are part of the Nishnawbe-Aski Nation located in some of the most remote and beautiful northern areas of the province of Ontario. NAPS is governed by a Police Service Board and has close operational links with federal, provincial and municipal police agencies.
