Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal

Executive Bill Gidley and National Secretary, Alex Geddes met with Mr. Joseph Hincke, Professional Integrity Officer and Ms. Louise Lavoie, Director, Honours and Recognition Branch at the RCMP HQ at 1230hrs this date (20th January) to request permission to be included in receiving the Queen Elizabeth 11 Diamond Jubilee medals from the Commission Paulson's allotment of 2,300 medals.

A letter was written and delivered to Commissioner Paulson on the 13th January by President, Tim Hoban stating our case as to why the RCMP Veterans' Association membership should be considered for this honour and this letter is attached for your information and attention.

Mr. Hincke advised us today that there was an oversight on behalf of the Force on including the RCMP Veterans' in the request for medals.  Executive Director, Bill Gidley had been working on this project with the RCMP since September 2011.  Once appraised of this fact, Commissioner Paulson directed Mr. Hincke to make available 60 medals to the RCMP Veterans Association.  The Force cannot give us any more medals in spite of the fact we requested much more.

The 60 medals allotted are exactly the same total of medals that were given to the RCMP Veterans' Association in March of 2003 for the Queen Elizabeth 11 Golden Jubilee Medal Program 2002.

Through general discussion and agreement, the RCMP Veterans' Association Members are not required to respond with nominations by the end of January 2012 as this is an RCMP diary date.

The RCMP Veterans' Association nominations can be processed and then forwarded to the RCMP by the end of February 2012 through our National Office.

President Hoban and the National Board of Directors will meet on this matter asap and advise the Divisions of a criteria for eligibility for the Queen Elizabeth 11 Diamond Jubilee Medal and procedures for forwarding the nominations to our National Office, RCMP Veterans' Association.

Webmaster:  Please upload the letter to the Commisioner and this message to our National Website.

Alex Geddes
National Secretary
RCMP Veterans' Association
