Reg. No. 11992 Ernest Ritson HENDERSON - 105th Birthday Celebrations
Ernest Ritson Henderson will be celebrating his 105th birthday on 11 Jan 2010.
Ernie was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on January 11th, 1905 and grew up in Cardale District, Manitoba. He joined the Force in 1933 and took his discharge in 1948. During the later part of his service Ernie was posted to “K” Division and served at Drumheller, Hanna , Turner Valley, High River and Cardston. Ernie has been a Honorary Life Member of the Calgary Division RCMP Veterans Association since 2003. He is very well known to many of our members.
Ernie has slowed down a little because of knee problems but generally remains if fairly good health. He reads without glasses, has only recently required hearing aids and still has a good head of hair.
Ernie gave up driving a vehicle but now travels around High River in his electric four wheel scooter which he complains is too slow.
Veteran Dennis Levy arranged a Birthday Party for Mr. Henderson in High River. Dennis Levy was provided with a personal letter of Congratulations from the Commissioner and the National President of the Veterans Association for presentation to Mr. Henderson at his birthday celebration.

Dear Mr. Henderson:
On behalf of all RCMP members, it gives me great pleasure to offer our
most sincere congratulations and best wishes on your 105th birthday.
I was impressed to hear of your continued activities in the community,
specifically as an honourary life member of the Calgary Division RCMP
Veterans Association. I want to take this opportunity to personally
commend you for your excellent service to the RCMP, including your
service at Depot and your many years in Alberta.
I am pleased to provide you with the enclosed Commissioner*s Coin in
recognition of your outstanding achievements and in celebration of your
birthday.
I hope you enjoy your birthday celebrations, as well as good health and
spirits.
Yours sincerely,
William J.S. Elliott
Enclosure

A total of 58+ RCMP members and veterans attended the celebration which included the CO "K" Division and I must say Ernie was very pleased and we all had a good time. Ernie was in great form, took the opportunity to thank everyone for attending and had the members in stitches while reminiscing about his early day adventures. What a great gentleman and a treasurer to High River, AB. Because of the large attendance Dairy Queen presented Ernie with two beautifully decorated cakes to a well carried tune of Happy Birthday sung by the 58+ member choir. Ernie had no difficulty to blow out all the candles.
