Calgary Division Wins Western Legacy Award

At a luncheon on October 21, 2011 the RCMP Veterans’ Association Calgary Division was a recipient of the Calgary Stampede Western Legacy Award for Sustained Contribution - Group.  The Western Legacy Award for Sustained Contribution - Group nominees must exhibit extraordinary community support over time which preserves the western lifestyle.

For nearly 100 years the Calgary Stampede has fostered the values of the Old West, where survival meant lending a hand to your neighbour and treating the land and its resources with care and respect. The communities of Calgary and Southern Alberta that grew up around the Stampede continue to carry these values today, of pride of place, commitment to the community, integrity, and western hospitality. The Stampede’s core purpose is to preserve and promote western heritage and values. The Western Legacy Award honours those from the community who have embodied these values; those who demonstrate that the western legacy of helping ones neighbour continues to thrive.

This award was presented to President Bob Kells by Mr. Michael Casey, President and Chairman of the Board of the Calgary Stampede.  Calgary Division was nominated by Fort Calgary and thanks Sara Jane Gruetzner, President  & CEO for this nomination.
